Hand's on Assignment Three

Time Diary

For this assignment, I chose to focus on my usage of YouTube, Instagram, and Snapchat. Last week I accumulated thirteen hours and twenty-nine minutes of time spent on Snapchat. This was definitely my most used app out of the three social media platforms I use currently. This is typically how I communicate with most of my friends. I do not really use iMessage that much so I am not surprised that this was my most used app. I don't really use this app for long periods of time unless using it to call someone. Otherwise, I only go on it periodically to chat with friends. I do see that I used this app most on Saturday and Sunday which makes sense since I only work during the week.

As for Instagram, I used the app for nine hours and eleven minutes. I am a little surprised this number was not in the double digits, to be honest. I find that I am on Instagram for longer periods than I am on Snapchat. I tend to use Instagram as a form for finding inspiration when doing my makeup or cooking. So, I figured I would have been using it a bit more than it shows. I see that I used this app the most on Saturday and Tuesday. Saturday makes a lot of sense since I was off work. However, Tuesday seems a bit odd to me. The only reason I can think of for being on Instagram more than weekdays than the others was because it was Valentine's Day.

Lastly, I used YouTube for only five hours and forty-seven minutes. I really only watch YouTube when I am getting ready in the morning or getting ready for bed in the evening. I also only really watch if there is new content being put out by the creators I follow. So, if there is not anything new posted I will watch a show or play music when getting ready. I am assuming since Tuesday through Thursday I did not use YouTube much there was probably nothing current to watch from the YouTubers I am subscribed to. 

In total, I amassed about twenty-eight hours using social media on my phone. I spent more than a day worth on my phone using these platforms. I find that crazy and hard to believe. I did not really think about the time I was spending until I added the numbers together. I doubt I will change my habits much, but it is interesting to understand how much time I really spend online using different social media platforms.
