My Personal Social Media Do's and Don'ts

When it comes to using social media I find it best to think about the intentions of each social media platform. To me, certain platforms can be used for a more personal purpose. Whereas, others are for a more professional or informational objective. I personally use the platforms Instagram and Snapchat the most. I tend to use Instagram as a way to see what is going on in the fashion, beauty, and culinary world since those are passions of mine. When I do post on my Instagram page or story it is either a life update, some of my outfits, or pictures of my friends and me. As for Snapchat, I use that to communicate with my close friends and some family. I also like to post on my Snapchat story meals or desserts that I make. I try not to do it often, but if a meal I make looks and tastes good I do enjoy sharing that. I don't like to post on my Snapchat story too often as I feel as though some people might find it exasperating. As for Instagram, I think it is pertinent to post regularly if you are trying to build a brand or are an aspiring influencer.

I first started using social media when I was around eleven years old. I primarily used Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube. I would use Pinterest and YouTube as a way to learn more about doing makeup or nails when I was younger. I used Instagram to post anything I thought was cool and interesting back in 2011. I posted and overshared things that I would now never think to even post now. Like embarrassing photos of myself or friends. Thankfully, I have come a long way from how I used to approach social media.

My Feelings Towards Social Media

Since I am an Integrated Public Relations and Advertising major I find social media plays a significant part in building a brand's image. The usage of social media platforms can make or break a brand. So to me, it is indispensable. For my personal social media accounts, I like to post or watch things that have to do with beauty or cooking. I do post selfies on my Snapchat and Instagram accounts since I do like to share some of the makeup looks I create. As for social media platforms I don't use one of the main ones would be TikTok. I already feel somewhat consumed by some of the social media platforms I currently use. So, as for now, I have decided not to use TikTok. I am not against downloading it in the future for personal use and I will certainly download it if I find it appropriate for the branding of a company. The only other platform I don't use anymore is Pinterest I find that I can get my cooking and beauty inspirations from YouTube and Instagram. I find that social media has become one of the most profitable and important tools one can use. So, I would never think to quit any of the platforms I currently use unless they become outdated. I do find that it is hard not to compare myself to others on social media, but I know that is not the intention of these platforms. Plus, as I have gotten older and grown into myself I find that social media does not affect me as much as it once did.
